A sensitive development proposal on the edge of Devizes, alongside the Kennet and Avon Canal and the North Wessex Downs AONB.
This 20 hectare site on the outskirts of Devizes in Wiltshire is located immediately alongside the North Wessex Downs AONB and as such was considered particularly sensitive.
The Richards Partnership undertook a number of detailed visual studies of the site that helped demonstrate to the local authority and the AONB officers that the site’s visual relationship with the AONB was weak and that proposed development would not give rise to harmful landscape and visual effects. Working with the project architects, The Richards Partnership developed a layout that responded to the sensitivities of the site and provided a robust landscape structure while also utilising the attractive canal-side frontage.
